  • You were nominated by a teacher, counselor, or advisor from your high school or program. They recognized your academic achievement, dedication, and commitment to your community.

  • No. Freshman Fresh Start is completely free for students, thanks to the support of our donors and grantors.

  • We ship your dorm room and school supplies directly to your college or university campus.

  • We’ll still send you a package of school supplies to support your college journey.

  • You’ll complete a short online form that takes about five minutes. We’ll ask for your contact details, your college/university name and address, your student ID number, and your expected move-in date.

  • Let your assigned volunteer know RIGHT AWAY so we can update your information.

  • No. All students receive the same high-quality dorm room and school supplies in neutral colors.

  • No. Freshman Fresh Start is an independent nonprofit. We do not provide assistance with housing placement, financial aid, or university-specific issues.

  • Each campus is different. Some deliveries go to mail rooms, others to residence halls. We’ll send you tracking info—be sure to check it and confirm the pickup location with your school if needed.

  • No. To prevent theft or delays, all packages are shipped directly to your college campus.

  • If there’s something you don’t need, consider giving it to the Residence Life office at your school, sharing with your roommate or a friend.

  • Yes! We welcome input from students to keep our packages relevant and helpful.

  • Absolutely. Many Freshman Fresh Start alumni return as volunteers to support future college students. Reach out if you’re interested.

  • Please tell your volunteer so we can allocate the package to another student in need.

  • Let your volunteer know—we’ll do our best to tailor your package accordingly.

  • We will accommodate a spring start, however, it will be up to you to reach out to Freshman Fresh Start to let us know your information.

  • Freshman Fresh Start is a one-time award designed to help you launch your first year of college successfully. We send quality items that should last you through your college years.

  • Yes. We work closely with schools and delivery providers to ensure your items arrive before or on your move-in date.

  • No. We don’t accept nominations from individuals. We partner directly with high schools and community-based organizations in the Greater Boston area to identify students each year.

  • They will reach out by email and text. Let them know your communication preference and keep in touch over the summer.

  • This confirms your participation. You’ll need to provide your contact info, college details, and move-in date. This step is required to receive your award.

  • Some schools have restrictions or specific mailroom procedures. Make sure your shipping address is complete and correct.

  • If your college, move-in date, or mailing address changes, notify your volunteer immediately so we can adjust delivery plans.

  • You’ll receive a tracking number once your items ship. Check your inbox and spam folders regularly for updates.

  • Packages are typically delivered to your mailroom or directly to your residence hall. If you’re unsure, ask a school staff member or your RA.
